Review by Admin:We've all been waiting expectantly for the bearded one to deliver the final installment of the ongoing saga that is Star Wars. Well he has delivered in spades, after the disappointment of episodes 1 & 2, legions of fans, myself included, were praying that he wouldn't screw up a third time. Thankfully he has more than made up for the shortcomings of the other prequels.
We start with a spectacular space battle between the republic and the separatists. The visuals are, as always, truly amazing. The plot moves at a breakneck speed, never getting bogged down with pseudo political dogma, as in the first episodes and thankfully Jar Jar Binks is reduced to a fleeting walk on part.
Hayden Christensen's acting is a vast improvement on 'Clones' and his fall to the dark side is portrayed very well. Most of the acting honours must go to Ian Mc Diarmid for his portrayal as Senator, and Emperor in waiting, Palpatine, he exudes absolute evil, and his manipulation of Anakin is skillfully handled.
The light sabre fights reach a new height in excitement, acrobatics and inventiveness. The digital backdrops are stunningly realized, and the scenery on the various different planets is at times, breathtakingly beautiful. As usual we still have some chunks of clunky dialogue, but its more than made up for by the sheer exhuberance and style of the whole movie.
By George, I think he's got it. |

| Watched only once at the movie house and still shrink-wrapped in a DVD case awaiting second, third, fourth and umpteen viewings. Why is it one never has enough time for Star Wars films? This was indeed the best of the three new ones but then again not a patch on any of the original trio. End game was better than anticipated but having made the mistake of watching the "This is how we made it all with computers and no actors" show, the magic sort of went a bit. As noted, the time flies by in this episode and it will command re-watching to pick out the details.
One day I'll get time to line up all six and waste a day wondering why Chewie wears a bandolier but never seems to use it... |
