Review by Admin:

Here we go again, yet another reboot. This time we needn't have worried about a thing. Director JJ Abrams has restarted the Star Trek franchise with a bang.

The story is somewhat superfluous to the whole shebang, but does hold ones attention. However it does stretch the bounds of credibility to the limit with it's questionable take on time travel, but then again this is science fiction.

After the sad debacle that was Star Trek Nemesis we needed something strong, vibrant and new, we certainly get it here.

The casting is flawless. From Chris Pines James T Kirk all the way to Leonard Nimoy reprising his role in a time travelling aside. It's Zachary Quinto's Spock, however, that is the most satisfying of the newcomers to the familiar roles. His portrayal of the confused young space cadet is masterful, every nuance of the Vulcans persona is carefully considered. That's not to say that Chris Pine's rebellious young Kirk isn't worthy of a special mention as is Zoe Zaldana as Uhura.

Comic relief is provided by Simon Pegg as Scotty aided by a consanant twisting Chekov played with aplomb by Anton Yelchin. I was surprisingly impressed by Eric Bana's villainous Nero, having found him a fairly charisma free zone in previous films.

Ultimately it's Abrams nous, aided by a fast paced script by Transformer scribes Orci and Kutzman, that make this such an exciting event.
A wonderful start to the 2009 blockbuster season, every bit as effective as last years Iron man.

It looks like another tired series has been reborn and now we can only look forward to the inevitable follow up.

Bring it on.
