Review by Admin:

The film opens with Kyle(LaBeouf) fishing with his dad. On the journey home they are involved in an accident and dad is killed. Kyle becomes depressive and difficult and in a fit of temper he hits his Spanish teacher. He is sentenced to 3 months of house arrest. His mother takes away his Xbox and TV so he is left to find his entertainment in alternative pursuits. His attention is diverted when a new girl neighbour Kelly, ( Roemer) moves in. He has also noticed certain similarities between another neighbour, Mr Turner (Morse), and certain facts being reported about a serial killer who has never been caught.

As a modern remake of Alfred Hitchcocks "Rear Window" this works reasonably well. On the downside however, the screenplay tends towards the obvious. Most of the plot "twists" can be guessed long before they arrive. Also, plot devices differ between this film and Rear Window with the use of technology as surveillance tools, thereby making it less tense. Not that moments of suspense are missing, particularly a scene in a supermarket involving Kelly and Turner.

The cast are all pretty competent in their respective roles, especially LaBeouf, and Morse oozes menace as the unhinged Turner.

All in all not a bad film, but one that could have been a little better with more time spent on a tighter script. Also watch out for a continuity error where kelly's clothes suddenly change mid scene.

What kind of a name is Shia LaBeouf? And, how depressing is it to see Carrie Anne Moss looking like someones Mum! Three things about the movie:- (1) Its not even remotely scary - my nine year old could watch it unflustered (2) Its a poor homage to HItchcock's Rear Window. Its closer to Fright Night (sans Vamps) and pales in comparison (3) Even the 1998 Christopher Reeve remake of Rear Window is more suspenseful Its a teen flick with very moderate suspense and corny gags with the odd, adolescent boob shot thrown in for good (bad) measure. All that said. Labeouf has an endeering factor somewhere within him and the movie IS watchable...just not VERY watchable
