Review by Admin:

After hearing the first murmurings of a JJ Abrams untitled project, I've been waiting to see what all the fuss was about. Was it worth the wait ?. Does it live up to the hype ?. Is it any good?. The answers are yes, yes and a resounding YES.

From the fertile minds of producer Abrams and director Matt Reeves, comes a story similar in basic premise, to Godzilla. That, however, is where the similarity ends. Mainly using footage from a hand held video camera, Reeves has created a masterpiece of edge of your seat terror and nerve jangling suspense. The fleeting glimpses of the odd leg of the invading monster and more importantly the sounds emanating from it's vast, barley seen bulk add to the very palpable feeling of impending doom. The skill with which the main characters are drawn into ever more desperate situations, never seems contrived.

All the cast are very believable, and although relatively unknown, will, I am sure, go on to greater things. Cinematographer, Bonvillain deserves a special mention, for his skill in making us, the audience, feel part of the proceedings. I can't recommend this film enough for fans of good suspense and drama. Essential viewing.

Almost 20 minutes in and I was getting really annoyed with the 20-something nobodies being shot through a hand-held video camera - the cinematography owing a lot to the 1998 (Matthew Broderick versus Godzilla movie).

However, when things kick-off after the Statue of Liberty's head comes rolling down the street, it's time to start munching the popcorn for a no-stop action packed ride till the end.
