Review by Admin:Doug Liman is rapidly making quite a name for himself as an action director. After introducing us to Jason Bourne, followed by Mr and Mrs Smith, he turns his sharp eye to science fiction in Jumper.
David (Christensen, totally convincing in the role) discovers he can teleport after nearly drowning while at college. He uses his powers to rob banks and sets himself up with an idyllic lifestyle, just taking what he wants, to enable him to live a life of wealth and priviledge. His charmed life is rudely interupted with the arrival of Roland (Jackson), the leader of a group of religious fanatics called Paladins, whose sole purpose is to destroy jumpers.
Jamie Bell is great as an anarchic young jumper called Griffin, and he explains a lot of the history of Jumpers versus Paladins. The OC's Rachel Bilson ably provides the love interest. The whole mix works really well, and with the very exhilerating action sequences, is always entertaining. In one sequence the phrase "jump on a bus" takes on a whole new meaning. The breathless action hardly lets up, and is always believable.
A hugely enjoyable fun fest, and hopefully the start of a new franchise. Roll on episode 2. |

| A bit like a pilot for a TV series, but a good one. The effects are great. |
